What we think is dropping

Dune Insider screenings are early shows on December 14 and 15, giving fans a chance to see the movie in IMAX or IMAX 70mm before its official release.

We think Tuesday’s drop includes those screenings, the rest of opening weekend, and about two weeks of regular IMAX showtimes.

Don’t panic if a theater already says sold out. Some opening-weekend IMAX 70mm shows went on sale earlier this year and are already gone. Tuesday should add more dates and times around them, and it should add non-70mm IMAX screens for opening weekend.

Some Tips:

Start an hour early.

Tickets usually go on sale a little before the official time. Sometimes it’s only a few minutes.

For Avengers: Doomsday, AMC started releasing showtimes at 7:59 am Pacific—an hour early. I’ll start checking for Dune at 8:00 am.

The site will probably crash.

AMC has struggled with every big sale lately. Keep AMC open in one tab and Fandango in another. Use whichever one works.

Go in person.

This is your best bet for the best seats. There’s no online queue to get through and no website to crash.

Earlier this month, when AMC added more The Odyssey IMAX 70mm tickets, the app crashed for hours. AMC then pulled those tickets from the site, and the only way to get seats for those showtimes was to go in person.

And beyond that, the AMC site and app will generally be flaky and frustrating. I personally gave up many times trying to get seats during these drops because it was awful. If you can go in person tomorrow, that’s what I would do.

Couldn’t get tickets? Watch for refunds.

AMC tickets can be refunded before the show, so sold-out seats will come back. The Movie Watch checks the seat map for you. On eligible showtimes, Seat Claim Checkout can hold matching seats before sending you a private link to finish checkout with AMC.
