About the film

Chakven is the story of a respected Punjabi village family known for its values, love, and loyalty across generations. The family is still dealing with the loss of their eldest son, Guri, who lost his life due to political rivalries. His best friend, Sukha (Kartar Cheema), returns home after serving seven years in prison following the same incident. Sukha has always treated Guri’s younger brother, Jassa (Vishal Brar), as his own brother. After spending years behind bars, Sukha now dreams of leaving his past behind and starting a new life in Canada. Jassa, once a hot-tempered young man involved in village politics and conflicts, decides to change his ways for the sake of his family. Like many Punjabi families hoping for a better future abroad, Jassa sends his newlywed wife, Ravi, to Canada. Sukha also eventually moves to Canada, leaving Jassa alone in Punjab to look after his family, home, and responsibilities. As time passes, the struggles of student life in Canada and the distance between Jassa and Ravi begin to affect their relationship. Two years later, Jassa receives shocking news that Ravi has become involved in the escort business. Unable to accept what he has heard, Jassa’s old temper returns, and he decides to travel to Canada to find out the truth and confront his wife. Things become even more complicated because Sukha, who has always considered Ravi his own sister, finds himself caught in the middle of the situation. With Jassa’s anger, Sukha’s loyalty, and Ravi’s unexpected circumstances, the story takes a series of emotional, humorous, and unpredictable turns. Chakven is a Punjabi family entertainer that brings together friendship, brotherhood, relationships, emotions, and situational comedy, set against the changing lives of Punjabi families between Punjab and Canada.
