About the film

Begotten is the creation myth brought to life, the story of no less than the violent death of God and the (re)birth of nature on a barren earth.

Begotten, E. Elias Merhige’s 1991 creation-myth horror, returns in a limited 4K restoration on 2026-09-30. The stark, wordless fantasy-horror features Brian Salzburg, Donna Dempsey and Stephen Charles Barry.
